Alec Poitevint
Georgia Republican Party
3110 Maple Drive
Atlanta, Georgia 30305
Mr. Chairman,
It has been brought to my attention that the Georgia
Republican Party leadership has continued to use state Party
assets to support my opponent in the Republican primary;
and, while I do not expect the same support from the media
as an incumbent, I do expect my own Party to apply the same
rules to all candidates who have qualified in our Party’s
primary. To do anything different implies that you have
used both my and my supporters’ money given to the Georgia
Republican Party against me in this election – something
which is, at best, unethical and, at worst, something much
more than you have considered, I am sure.
I
understand that this decision has been made, in large part,
owing to our very conservative, Christian stand and, also,
because the state GOP leadership know that if it becomes
widely known that Sonny Perdue has opposition in the
primary, he may very well not make it to the November
general election.
Thus far, the following inappropriate actions have been
taken by the state Party since the day of my qualification:
1) refusal of the Party leadership to even list me on the
state GOP website as a candidate, 2) use of Ga GOP funds
for media campaigns on behalf of my opponent. (I have
spoken with both Marty Klein and Clelia Davis about the
problem and received nothing but a token arrogant response
to the effect that the party leadership had decided to
protect Republican incumbents of statewide offices this
year); and 3) refusal to allow my campaign to participate
in GaGOP-sponsored events.
This letter serves as official notification to you, as the
Party chairman, of the offenses; and it, furthermore,
serves as official notification that I now require the
following actions be taken immediately to remedy this
unethical conduct: 1) You will list me as a candidate,
along with the exact same information given for my
opponent; 2) you will cease and desist immediately from
using GaGOP funds for my opponent until a winner is named in
the primary; 3) you will provide my campaign exactly equal
funds for media advertising in the amount that has been
spent for my opponent up to the date of termination of his
advertising from the GaGOP (You will also provide a
detailed statement of media venues and dollars spent in
every case of GaGOP funds which have been used for my
opponent since the day that my qualification was forwarded
to the Georgia Secretary of State); and 4) you will extend
to my campaign an invitation to participate equally with my
opponent in every GaGOP-sponsored event between now and the
primary this year.
Due to the time constraints related to the upcoming primary
election, you are to notify my campaign that you have
complied with these directives not later than 5:00pm on
Friday 19 May 2006. A copy of this letter is also being
forwarded to a number of interested parties, both private
and governmental.
